ARHUM- ARRIVE protocol with Handshake Utilization and Management

    Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) possess multiple benefits e.g. self-concerned, multi-hop networks consisting of inexpensive and tiny wireless devices, can perform observation tasks and finds applications related to control in various environments. WSNs can be used in unreceptive or impassable situations and are usually neglected. Such situations create many challenges to assure that WSNs will work adequately and can survive for a long time to fulfil their functionalities and requirements. It is a meticulous challenge to secure wireless sensor network against any suspected attack. Wireless sensor networks are also vulnerable to many denial of services (DOS) attacks where main aim is that the path of routing is interrupted and disrupted so that data is prevented from reaching the destination. Many routing protocols have been presented earlier to resolve these issues. One such protocol is ARRIVE. But we have early proved formally that there are lot of issues in ARRIVE as well. It was proved using formal methods that ARRIVE protocol is vulnerable to multiple issues, in particular, the black hole attack. In this paper we present an extension of ARRIVE protocol, called ARHUM. We prove using model checker UPPAAL that ARHUM is immune from simple and collaborative black hole attack. In future we aim to extend ARHUM to avoid more WSN attacks.​
